Day 21/35 – Part 1/2

Okarito Lake

Yesterday there was a nice red glow above the ocean. Despite the fact that I didn’t feel like going there anymore, I hadn’t expected it to be honest. Here, the only thing I could see was a thick layer of mist.

This morning everything is still completely wet of yesterdays adventure. I wake up at 06:15 and see stars in the sky, which means that it’s not clouded and that I can go to the beach where I was two days ago. It takes only 20 minutes to get there and I arrive just before 07:00.

Close to the beach I notice a Morpork on the road, a kind of owl. Didn’t expect to see one of these here.

It’s very cold on the beach, only about 6 degrees Celcius. Luckily I have a single dry shirt and a fleece sweater in the car, so that shouldn’t be a problem.

Arriving at the beach it occurs to me that the sun will not rise above the ocean. This was a wrong bet. A couple of kilometers back I just spotted a small lake (Okarito Lake & river) that does look towards the rising sun. Better hurry back.

Okarito Lake

The soft light is great here.

Okarito Lake

There is a boathouse on the shore, that is just in enough light.

Okarito Lake

Directly after, a cloud turns pink, making the scene perfect.

Okarito Lake

This place is infested by those shitty sandflies. They drive me crazy.

After a while, it’s only getting lighter and looking towards the ocean I notice a couple of white clouds on a pastel pink background.

Better to have a look overthere now before it’s completely gone.

Okarito Beach

From now on it will only get lighter and I don’t expect to see any spectacular coloring anymore. I really start getting cold now and decide to return to my room.
