This morning I get up early with the beautiful skies of yesterday morning still in my mind. I first drive to the Kaikoura Lookout, a high vantagepoint, in the hope that the Kaikoura Mountains will be illuminated nicely, but this is not the case yet. It’s now well over three quarters of an hour before sunrise, just to early. Better to return to the beach close to the hotel and try again later.
This is much better. Now it’s 40 minutes before sunrise.
15 minutes before sunrise it’s becoming much lighter already.
This is the last one here. I’am due to go back to the vantage point.
The whole south side of the peninsula is bathing in a red glow, both the sky and the ocean. This, while the sky on the north side, I am just coming from, was deep blue.
The colors intensify further. I have seldom seen such a bizar sky!
The colors start to drop…
…and not much later everything is business as usual.
That was a beautiful show! More than worth it to get up early for.
