Day 17/35 – Part 6/6

Sperm Whale number 5

Hereafter it takes quite a time for the second one during this trip is found at almost 2 kilometers away. The 4 meter high fountain is the only indication to be sure it’s a whale. Al the other is driftwood, a wave or seaweed. The vessel goes in quick and this one we can see up very close as well. From around 20 meters I guess. Every inhalation is good for 10 minutes of submersion. So by keep an eye on the breathing one can estimate how long the next dive is going to last. During the dive several organs are shut down to save oxygen. This one stay quite long on the surface. The vessel is oriented not that well regarding the sun, but the photographs come out quite well.

This shows how wildly the vessel is moving. It’s just impossible to keep the camera stable.

Back on shore, I return to the seals to shoot some photographs in the evening light. Their furs sparkle nicely against the background

This one is chased, by…

While I walk back it occurs to me that these shit covered rocks are quite photogenic in the light of the setting sun (-;.

From a bit closer, the peak comes out better.
