This morning I get up at 07:00 op, about an hour before the sun rises. Objective of this morning is Kirkjufell at sunrise. First I visit the waterfall, but from here you look straight into the sun so that is not an option. I drive around a bit looking for a nice spot on the shoreline and finally I end up only 100 meters from my hotel in the harbour (-; Here I find a nice reflection of Kirkjufell in the water and a view on the mountain tops surrounding it, that will catch the first light. I alternate photographing the mountain peaks and Kirkjufell everytime something changes.
Reminds me somehow of the Jungfrau region, at least the mountain peaks, not the rest.
All photographs of Kirkjufell during a period of one hour show clearly how extreme light changes from before sunrise to 10 minutes afterwards.
From now one it just becomes lighter and the soft yellowish light becomes harsher. Time for breakfast.
Until 11:30 I’m busy sorting out the photos of yesterday and finishing the story. I had taken an option for another night here, but only if the boat trip would end later. If the orcas are closeby it will only take 2 hours but it could take up to 4 hours otherwise.
At first I planned to drive to Vik today, a trip of around 400 km. But that wouldn’t be a wise thing to do if the boat trip ends late in the afternoon. Just try to find that hotel in total darkness.
But now I think of it again, I haven’t seen everything here yet. I would like to give the waterfall another try for sure, in particular together with the Northern Lights, if possible. So I book another night. Have to change rooms, but I get a larger one in return.
