Day 22/23

Morning

This morning I am doing things easy. I have checked the tide table and at 12:00 the tide will be at its lowest. This will the best time to checkout the crocodiles, because then they will be resting on the riverbanks. The weather is quite good. I hang all my wet stuff outside on the balcony to dry.

Just after I have taken a shower, I skype with the homefront. I walk in my underpants onto the balcony to show the view. Suddenly I see all the heads in the restaurant downstairs turn to me. Funny. Hmmm, I had better put on some clothes first then.

I stay in the motel until 11:45 and try to dry and freshen up the clothes as best as possible. The sun is very strong now.

Afternoon

Then I drive to the river with the crocodiles. It is not that far from here. I can see the spectacle from far away. On both sides of the bridge, many cars are parked and there is police as well. I park the car also and walk onto the bridge. Soon I see the crocodiles and there are many and they are quite large as well. Using a tripod here is impossible because cars are passing by very close to me, so have to shoot from hand this time.

Just before I leave, a helicopter with tourists is passing by very low. Pity I have the wrong lens mounted and I have not enough time to change.

Now it is only a couple of hours driving to the motel that I find easily.

Airport Motel

Airport Motel

After cleaning out the car completely I give Europe Car a call and ask them if they can drop me off back at my motel after return of the car. ’No they don’t have a shuttle going to this motel.’ It’s only 1500 meters or so, but a bit difficult to walk via the highway. So, I ask them how I have to get back here. ’We will bring you sir’.

At the return, the car is examined from all sides. The engine is started. All windows are opened and closed. All cupboards and the trunk opened to check whether nothing has disappeared. He brushes away the mud with his foot to check whether the paint has not been damaged (if you ask me, that will actually scratch the paint, but ok) and the bumpers get a good kick (luckily they do not fall off). Then I have to sign and everything is ok.

I say ’ok, nice, but I have left a signed, blank creditcard slip here. What about that?’. ’Everything is ok sir’. So, I ’Well then I want it back’. A bit irritated he teares the slip apart and throws it on the desk. I laugh a little bit, like ok I believe you. But he makes a point of it, and I have to take the pieces with me, he doesn’t want them anymore. Hahaha. What do you take me for? They check out the car from inside and out whether I did not steal anything. Then I will most definitely not leave a signed blank creditcard slip. Come on.

Strange by the way is that when I picked up the car they told me that it can take up to 6 weeks before fines come in. So I suspected that they intended to keep the slip for these cases, but apparently not.

At dinner I shoot a couple of photographs of the motel during sunset.

Airport Motel

There is a wedding party here. While I am eating the volume of the tv is increased: soccer. More and more guys from the party come to watch it. After a while around 10 people are watching soccer instead of being at the party. I am asking you!

Evening

I am quietly sitting in my motel. The airport is only 6 kilometers away. I can almost walk it, but for all the stuff I would have to carry. Tomorrow morning I have to take a cab and then it will be all over. The day after I will be back home again.
