After lunch I continue to the north side of the ring road through the valley. I have selected Valley View, a nice spot along the river with a view on El Capitan and a part of the valley.
Using a super wide angle lens you can have a nice depth effect by putting some of these boulders in the foreground. This is a composite of 14 photos. Both the available dynamic range and the depth of field of a single photograph proves insufficient. I need two exposure sets of 7, with the first set for the three big boulders on the foreground and the other for the background.
The whole river bank is covered by these boulders, probably the water is low now.
Then I continue to another location by the river, El Capitan Vista, that’s much closer to the rock wall. This is along the south part of the ring road and I have to walk a bit towards the river to get there.
There are not many possibilities to variate, but these are nice enough to collect.
Another location that can be reached quite easily via a short walk is Mirror Lake. There are signs everywhere warning for bears and to be honest I’m not feeling completely comfortable.
This spot is almost magical in itself, a perfect mirror and beautiful colors. The thin layer of snow completes the photograph.
After another photograph, I return quickly to the car. It’s getting late and I want to be back in time for …
… a photo from the Sentinel Bridge of Half Dome during sunset.
And then the work is done for today. Quite comfortable having a room in the Yosemite Valley. Tomorrow morning I can shoot straight from the bed. The same kind of weather is predicted. Want to shoot for a couple of hours and then continue to Death Valley National Park.
